You know I love being a brony, but I think the biggest flaw in the community is this, “I don’t like X so I have to do everything I can to get rid of it!” when you could just not look at it. (okay maybe not the BIGGEST but one of the biggest)
Like when a handful of people were offended by Derpy….
I think it all boils down into the whole “Social Justice” thing.
Rather than educating people into being more sensitive to certain issues people would rather enforce it by shaming offenders (regardless of their intentions) or getting their content down.
They really believe they are making the world a better place by enforcing their moral standards on others and while I’m not going to go as far as calling their standards wrong they are undoubtably THEIR standards so the least they could do if they want people to go by them is to at least convince others they are right.
I’ve seen many people associating themselves to the SJ scene and none of them really strike me as pragmatic or level headed individuals, it seems to me like every time they are asked the question “why is X wrong” their response is basically “because it is! What’s wrong with you people?” followed by some kind of personal attack or Tumblrism like “I can’t” or “I’m 5000% done”I believe that as long as you treat others with respect and explain yourself you can at least get your point across and have it be respected.
Maybe they won’t stop making that offensive porn you like so much, but maybe they’ll think twice about posting it somewhere it shouldn’t be or start tagging it properly, I know I would.
Life is a sprint, not a marathon: Oh, Bronies:
