DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THIS

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM

Geez, no wonder PB’s the ruler of the Candy Kingdom.

She’s the progenitor of the entire freakin’ candy race!

Or rather, the substance that spawned her is the progenitor.

Let me explain.

In the episode, we see this  bubblegum-like sticky mass covering everything from bridges to trees to buildings. Wherever it came from, it’s freaking everywhere in the post-Mushroom War world. And whatever it is, it obviously shows signs of not only intelligence, but of benevolence.

Now, suppose that all the different globs we see are the spawn of one original mutated blob of gum-stuff which reproduces asexually, splitting off bits of itself into new, self-sufficient blobs. Over the years, the blobs would continue to evolve rapidly, taking on more humanoid forms and constructing complex family structures not unlike those of the now-extinct humans (PB did mention her “Great Uncle Gumbald” at one point, if I recall.)

It’s these candy-oids (confectionoids?) that would eventually become the citizens of the Candy Kingdom, ruled over by the royal family whose gummy physical traits hearken back to the proto-candy blobs. Not unlike numerous human monarchs who claim legitimacy via a divine or otherwise holy ancestry (Japan’s emperors and various Middle Eastern monarchies), PB’s family seem godlike in their gumminess in the eyes of their subjects, solidifying their claim to rule.

Now, let’s blow this theory up even more and suppose that PB and her fam not only look like the proto-blob that helped SImon and Marceline 1,000 years ago, they retain ancestral memory of that event.

The Candy Kingdom royalty remember the little sick girl and strange possessed scientist being cornered by zombies, and PB is no different.

She’s been Marceline’s friend/girlfriend/bandmate for a handful of years,

but she’s known her and cared for her for centuries.
